Roof Rejuvenation Day: Preparation, Rain, Drying and Aftercare Questions

A practical checklist for the questions to settle before your crew arrives.

Find A Provider
Residential roof, solar panels and landscaped garden

Before roof rejuvenation day, get the provider’s preparation and aftercare instructions for the exact product being applied. Confirm access, property protection, the weather decision and when normal use of affected areas can resume. Keep the contact details handy so you know who to call if plans change.

This checklist helps you organize the job without guessing at drying times or copying instructions from a different treatment.

Before the crew arrives

Ask for a short written job plan. It should identify the product, included roof areas, preparation, any agreed repairs, application work and cleanup.

Confirm these practical details:

Agree on any extra work before it starts. The cost guide explains why scope matters as much as the headline price.

Pets, gardens and outdoor spaces

Tell the provider about pets, vegetable beds, ponds, rainwater collection and outdoor living areas when booking. Ask which areas need protection and when pets and people can use them again. Have the crew explain its plan for covers, runoff and cleanup before application begins.

Product documentation helps you ask better questions. The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety explains that a Safety Data Sheet provides hazard, handling and emergency information. Ask for the relevant product and safety information rather than relying only on words such as “natural” or “green.”

Our pet and garden safety guide covers those questions in more detail.

What if you have solar panels?

Identify the panels, wiring and other rooftop equipment in advance. Ask how the crew will protect the equipment and which shingle areas are included or inaccessible. If another contractor is needed for work on the solar system, establish that responsibility before treatment day.

An existing leak around a mount or penetration needs its own diagnosis. Include it in the roof assessment rather than expecting the treatment to resolve it. Read our solar and roof rejuvenation guide when planning the work.

How does rain affect the appointment?

Ask who checks the forecast and who makes the final decision to proceed. Get the product-specific requirements for the roof surface and the weather window after application.

Useful questions include:

  1. Must the roof be completely dry before work starts?
  2. What temperature conditions does this product require?
  3. How much rain-free time is needed after application?
  4. What happens if unexpected rain arrives?
  5. Will the crew return to check the application if necessary?

Keep a postponement contact and an alternative date. A forecast check belongs in the job plan, not as a surprise after the crew has started.

Drying, absorption and curing: ask which matters

Different treatments can behave differently. A surface that looks dry does not necessarily tell you that every product-specific process is complete. Ask the provider which milestones matter for its treatment and what each means for your property.

Get clear instructions for roof access, outdoor spaces, pets, cleaning and any planned follow-on work. Avoid using another company’s advertised drying time as permission for your own roof. If solar work or a roofing repair is scheduled afterwards, pass the instructions to that contractor too.

Before the crew leaves

Walk through the completed scope from an accessible place and ask for the completion record. Keep:

Ask who to contact about residue on surrounding surfaces or a concern after the crew leaves. Follow the product’s cleaning instructions instead of experimenting with a household cleaner or pressure washer.

Make the next step easy

Before booking, use our qualification guide and product comparison to understand the assessment and treatment choice. Ask the original shingle manufacturer about compatibility with the proposed product before authorizing work.

Once you have selected a provider, turn the answers above into a one-page job plan. You will know what to prepare, what happens if the weather changes and what to keep afterwards. Find a provider in Alberta to begin that conversation.
